Tom Groth Law PLLC is a Connecticut law firm owned and operated by Thomas S.Groth, Esq.
Here is a summary of our main practice areas:
Residential Real Estate Closings - Buying and Selling Homes
The firm focuses its practice largely on filling all and any of the required roles of an Attorney in Residential Real Estate Transfers throughout the state.
In Connecticut, as opposed to most other states, it is required by law that only licensed Attorneys conduct real estate closings. In Connecticut, Law Firms fill the transactional roles generally filled by Title Companies, Escrow Companies, Settlement Agents, and mobile notary signing agents in other states. We regularly work with other law firms to fill one or all of these roles on behalf of their clients. But at TGL, we usually handle the entire purchase or sale of your home from end-to-end.
Here are the services we provide in Residential Real Estate Transactions Across Connecticut (generally stated on Loan Estimates and Closing Disclosures as "services you can shop for".):
- Settlement (disbursing funds on behalf of the client and preparing and/or recording the necessary documents on the land records)
- Title Search review and clearing title clouds
- Contract drafting, review, and negotiation
- Title Policy Writing and Issuance
- Lien Tracking
- Closing: Attorney Groth prepares paperwork for signing, reviews it for accuracy, explains the documents to his clients as they sign, and ensures each document is properly signed and acknowledged.
Business Acquisition, Formation, and Compliance
Attorney Groth advises new businesses on the necessary legal paperwork and filings that every business needs to start off on the right foot. Attorney Groth also works with individuals and existing businesses that are purchasing an operating business.
Select Tax Matters
Attorney Groth is well-versed in Federal and State tax law and serves as an advisor, expert witness, and of-counsel for other Attorneys throughout CT on tax matters in divorce cases, business breakdowns, and other controversies between private parties. While Tom previously worked almost exclusively in the area of tax disputes, he no longer accepts most Tax Debt Resolution cases, with the exception of Innocent Spouse Controversies, and fully developed and contested Audits on Appeal (when a Tax Court Petition is advisable.)
